2012 TN STATE CHAMPIONSHIP ROAD VENUES
TBRA is pleased to announce the locations for the state championship criterium and road race for 2012.
The Tennessee state criterium championship will be held on Sunday, July 1st in Cookeville. The promoting clubs for the criterium will be Caney Fork Racing of Caney Fork Cycles, and MOAB Masters of the MOAB/Mid TN Velo racing club. Cookeville has a long history of crowning state champions in the criterium, but it has been since 2008 since they have hosted the championship.
The state road race championship will be Saturday, August 4th in Oak Ridge. The promoting club will be Knox Velo along with co-promoters Friends of Great Smoky Mountains and Southern Cycling Operations. Oak Ridge last held the road championship back in 2009.
Several new features will be implemented for all the state road championship events in 2012. There will be a podium presentation at the end of each category race, and the riders will immediately be awarded his or her medal, along with a state championship jersey for the winners. Also, the state road championship events will not have any cash payouts, thereby putting the focus on racing for a championship jersey, a podium medal, and Division I points for the overall BAR series.
Beginning in 2013 a new process for selecting state championship events will be employed. The TBRA board will institute a bid process to begin at the annual club meeting in December 2012. More information about the bid process and guidelines will be announced prior to the meeting in December.
“I believe 2012 will be a memorable year for all three state championships. We have three great locations evenly distributed across the state, which are also spread out nicely on the calendar. Moreover, each event has a history of promoting a quality racing experience. We realize the change in no payouts is a big one for racers to adjust to, but it’s part of a bigger long-term strategy we are seeking to implement over time,” says TBRA Road Director Tim Hall.
The first championship event of 2012 will be the state individual time trial championship on Saturday, May 26th in Lascassas.
